Sight and Sound  #SightandSound

Britt will be providing her novel, Searching.

The Nephalim are considered ‘the fallen ones’. Others call them Giants.

They are also regarded as the offspring of fallen angels and human women, from Genesis chapter 6. Emphasis mine.

1And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
2That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
4There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

What I really find fascinating is all cultures have stories regarding gods coming down to Earth and inhabiting with humankind. There can be an argument these same gods are the fallen angels. Most in the western world know of the Titans and other Greek mythology creatures.

The website thoughtco.com has a good listing of these gods and goddesses.

There was a recent show on The History Channel, where two brothers went across United States. The show called, Searching for Giants, aired in 2014, and provided some interesting finds in the archives across the States.

You may be able to find some snippets of the videos in YouTube or other sites.

In my novel, Sight and Sound, I created Forward, providing some background on the world I am creating. It was taken from the cultural mythology and Book of Enoch.

The Book of Enoch chapter 15: 8-11 Emphasis mine.

And now the giants, who have been begotten from body and flesh, will be called evil spirits on earth, and their dwelling-places will be upon the earth.

9. Evil spirits proceed from their bodies; because they are created from above, their beginning and first basis being from the holy watchers, they will be evil spirits upon    the earth, and will be called evil spirits.

10. But the spirits of heaven have their dwelling-places in heaven, and the spirits of the earth, who were born on the earth, have their dwelling-places on earth.

11. And the spirits of the giants, who cast themselves upon the clouds, will be destroyed and fall, and will battle and cause destruction on the earth, and do evil; they will take no kind of food, nor will they become thirsty, and they will be invisible.

Governments Looking to Civilians for Cyber-Security

An article came out in January reporting Thai government looking to recruit civilians for cyber warriors. [Source]

“The junta’s move follows a recent series of cyberattacks, reportedly mounted by the hacktivist group Anonymous, in retaliation for Thailand passing a newly amended cyber law, widely considered to be restrictive to users’ internet freedom.”

Interestingly, this same idea was mentioned publically back in 2015 by our own government. [Source]

But is this a good idea? We have seen the discussion of failure on proper vetting for bringing in refugees into the Country. Will the US Government do a better job in vetting civilians to access their servers?

Personally, I think it’s an interesting idea. The fact they are even contemplating this idea gives us a good tell on where we are with cyber-security. If they are seriously considering to recruit civilians to help defend the servers, then they must be overwhelmed with activity against us.

My initial questions on how would they go about to do this?

  1. Access
    a. Would this be via remote? This opens additional issues of security.
    b. Access via physical in network computers. Then you would have to find civilians near a military base.
  2. Training
    a. This would take some time and resources. Even when you get the education in place, you would need a continued education program.
  3. Payment
    a. Those signing up for the military tend to get a bonus or incentive. This generally comes in, via monetary up front or through education and skills. It would be interesting to see the incentive, outside of nationalism.
  4. Time
    a. Outside of the necessary training for education, what time will be required for the civilians? Will they be going online or access the servers on a scheduled time?
    b. Perhaps once education has been satisfied, they will be considered on-call, much like the reserves.

Still, I think this may be a good thing for the security of our infrastructure, if they can figure a way to do this without causing less security.

Allowing access on a physical base poses a different security issue than access on a server.

Your Identity

The age old question of “Who am I” is a question all must wrestle with. Based on that understanding, individuals will provide the perception for others.

Webster defines identity as “sameness of essential or generic character in different instances”. As we learn more about the individual, we view their identity. Another way to look at identity is how the individual portray themselves. I know many who use their job as their identity. They are very good at work, but outside of the environment, become nervous, losing confidence and become very  self-conscience.

I have also seen many mothers portray their identity as ‘the mom’. Yet, when their kids reach the age of leaving the home, these same mothers feel like their identity is being removed. What will they do now?

The issue of the individual becomes an identity crises. Webster defines identity crises as, “personal psychosocial conflict especially in adolescence that involves confusion about one’s social role and often a sense of loss of continuity to one’s personality”.

Over time, I have had to change my role in the work force. Doing so, I had to change my identity to some extent. This change can be uncomfortable. Everyone deals with it differently. However, I like to say, “you have to ride the wave or be crushed by it”. The meaning is change is inevitable. You have to adapt, or you will be left behind.

I write this for those going through a crises in their identity. Whether it is a change in work, kids leaving the home, or another need for change, I suggest you take a breath. It can be done, but will take adjusting.

When I refer to a change in identity, I do not mean a change in your personal beliefs, or memories. I am referring to the necessity to promote another side of you.

As an example, in the workforce, I have been a CNA, X-ray tech, developer, and support personnel. My role has changed over time, and those perceiving me have viewed my identity differently. However, at the core, I still assist others in helping provide them a need.

I find it more difficult to remove old bad habits that are part of my psyche. These tend to follow you, regardless of your identity/role change.

Lately, I have attempted to dip a toe in writing. In nearly every story, a character must go through a change. Their self-identity is questioned, and the individual must review and acknowledge who they are. Then based on an internal or external conflict, the character develops.

What fascinates me, is the story reflects us in the real world. We are much more complex, and have multiple sides to our identity. Yet, as a reader, we tend to review the character, finding a similarity and falling in love with it.

Sheol or Hell

I came across an interesting question that was posted on a forum.

The question was, “Do you think hell is real? Can a person’s actions really determine if they will enter hell after their death?”

To this day, people are still inquiring about the after-life, and if our actions today will affect it. So, I had to post a response to the inquiry. My reply is below. My current novel,Sight and Sound takes a peek in the spiritual world. It is my thought, your worldview reflects on how you perceive the after-life and the actions you take currently. Thoughts?

My reply:

I lean more toward the traditional Christian worldview. Hell was created and intended for the fallen angels. The lake of fire is for Lucifer (Satan), the false prophet, and the beast. That being said, there are two different destinations for us and them.

There are some reported to have seen hell it while nearly dead or officially dead and returned. The amount of these sightings cannot go unnoticed.

I suggest they were not in hell, rather hades. I place for those unsaved souls.

It would fall under the mythological tales regarding the underworld, or place of the dead. I would also fall under the biblical term Sheol, a place of darkness where the dead go. Biblically

Sheol held both the righteous and unrighteous. Prior to Christ’s crucifixion, Sheol was divided into two parts. One area dedicated for the unrighteous. This is in reference to the rich man in Jesus parable. The other area dedicated for the righteous, called Abraham’s bosom. This is in in reference to the beggar in Jesus parable.

After Christ’s crucifixion, Jesus entered into Sheol and removed those righteous, while informing those in hades the news of redemption. This is believed to have occurred while he was “in the tomb” for three days.

Now Sheol or hades is reserved for those not accepting Christ as their savior. The change was due to the new covenant (New Testament) from Christ on the cross.
